Most yards quote on request. We publish rates instead, because a price you cannot see is a price you cannot check. Use these to sanity check any quote you are given, including one that comes through us.

Day and week rates by machine

Self drive, machine only, before delivery. Figures are drawn from published UK yard rates and are guidance, not a quote.

The three costs that are not in the headline rate

Delivery and collection. Priced by distance from the depot, typically from £35 each way. On a single day hire that can be a third of your total, which is why the cheapest advertised day rate is often not the cheapest hire.

Fuel. Almost never included. Machines arrive full and are expected back full. A 1.5t working a full day burns roughly 10 to 15 litres of diesel.

Operator. Around £250 to £300 a day on top of the machine. Worth it if you are working near services or on a slope.

How multi day hire is priced

Days two and three normally bill at about two thirds of the first day, because the yard is only paying for delivery once. That makes a week far better value per day than three separate days.

Week rates assume a five day working week. Weekend hire usually prices above midweek.

What moves a quote

1. Distance from the depot. The single biggest variable on a short hire.
2. Machine size. Bigger machines cost more to move as well as to hire.
3. Duration. Longer hires drop sharply in effective day rate.
4. Season. Spring and summer are peak for domestic landscaping work.
5. Attachments. A breaker or auger is normally charged on top.
6. Access. If the machine has to be walked a long way from a drop point, some yards add time.

Getting a quote you can compare

Ask for the machine size, the day or week rate, delivery and collection as separate figures, and whether fuel is included. A quote missing any of those four is not comparable to one that has them.
